How nutrition can save your heart... it saved mine!

Hey Heart Buddies. Have you heard? There's a way to support the podcast and this newsletter via The Patreon Community. Please consider becoming a monthly supporter today. Thank you. :)

First.... a moment of joy. I rode my mountain bike three days in a row this past week... and not my e-mountain bike. I rode my human-powered mountain bike. THREE DAYS IN A ROW. FOR MULTIPLE MILES. And! I never got tired. My heart never hurt. I talked the entire ride with the friends we were riding with. This truly miraculous development is thanks to a Mt. Everest's worth of deep healing and just showing up every day and doing the next right thing. I actually thought and believed I'd never be able to mountain again. Please do a happy dance at your computer or with your phone if you are reading this because the seas have parted, and I am achieving the unthinkable as a complicated heart patient.

Speaking of complications... :)

Jason and I are currently in the depths of a kitchen remodel. I went into this project with high hopes that it would be easy peasy and that we'd be well equipped to handle any mishaps. We've been through much more challenging situations like HEART SURGERY, a TBI, the violent death of a dear friend, broken bones, dislocations, challenging politics. Plus, it's a privilege to remodel! We are so lucky. We know this. And still, it's been super-duper hard. The experience has brought up opportunities for healing, giving permission to make mistakes, room for growth, and believing in possibility and abundance as we make room for a kitchen that will actually function well and fit me (I am 5 feet tall, after all).

It's not lost on me that this remodel rides on the heels of my deep and cathartic work with cardiac dietitian, Michelle Routhenstein. I've brought her to you all this October in a 5-part series. I hope you have had a chance to listen to the short episodes. I hope you have found nuggets of wisdom, even if just in this newsletter. For me, she helped me rewire my relationship with food, get off most supplements, think about food as medicine and fuel for my outdoor adventures in a healthy wise-mind way. It was only appropriate to top off my healing with a kitchen remodel to fully usher in a new way of nourishing myself, Jason and all of our animals.

I have not only rewired my relationship with food, I am also rewiring parts of my kitchen. How's that for the ultimate living metaphor?

This week's 11-minute episode caps off our month together with two truly astonishing stories from Michelle on how clients positively impacted their heart health through nutrition. It's worth the listen.

Michelle delivers powerful advice on taking control of heart health through science-based nutrition. She shares inspiring success stories, including a client who dramatically improved her ejection fraction and another who avoided stents by reducing artery inflammation. Michelle emphasizes that dietary choices significantly impact overall heart health, urging listeners to be proactive and empowered in their care.

Key Highlights:

  • A Remarkable Transformation: One of Michelle’s clients, battling cardiomyopathy, improved her heart’s ejection fraction from 20% to an astonishing 48% in just a month and a half without the need for additional medications or surgery.
  • Overcoming Heart Attacks: Hear about a client who, after experiencing his third heart attack, fully transformed his arterial health through dedicated dietary changes and no longer needed a stent.

(included in this email are a list of many great resources at the bottom to go with this week's episode) Hello Heart Friends. I have returned from a week in North Carolina where I attended the funeral of one of my dearest childhood friends, Bess Harrell Little. I gave myself the entire week off so I could focus on Bess, her family, seeing my dad and stepmom, and just honoring my deep sadness. It's been such a disturbing couple of weeks since Bess died unexpectedly in her sleep the day before...

Hi friends. We had our first meetup on Zoom for the Patreon community this weekend. Folks who know me well know that I rarely shed a tear... like maybe once a year, if my tear ducts are lucky. Well, I shed a tear on Sunday evening as I looked at the souls who have supported my podcast and who are now showing up in the community to support each other. It's a small yet intentional community that holds promise and hope for those who will join in the coming months. While I can't save everyone, I...
